Pirenópolis is considered a National Historical Heritage site and is located in the state of Goiás in the heart of the Savannah (Cerrado) region of Brazil. Only 87 miles from Brasilia. This region is highly acclaimed as a tourism destination and is a living historical photograph, with beautiful colonial style construction, dating from the 18th century.

The city is charming and quaint, surrounded by historical farm houses, old mills, museums and chapels. It boasts the oldest and largest historical monument found in the Brazilian Midwest, built in 1727, the church, Nossa Senhora Do Rosário (Our Lady of the Rosary) is a masterpiece of construction in the Colonial/Baroque tradition which was popular during the period of gold exploration in Brazil.

The streets are cobbled with locally mined quartzite stones, lamp lit and wind around the beautiful River of Souls (Rio das Almas). Nestled in the Pireneus Mtn. Range (Serra dos Pireneus), surrounded by the exuberant flora and fauna of the Brazilian Savannah, it offers its visitors a pleasant stay with natural attractions, such as waterfalls, ecological reservations, parks and beautiful views.

Tourism

The city presides over 8 Protected/Preservation areas which is the highest number of preservation sites in the state of Goiás. Local cultural traditions encourage and maintain the development of original craftwork. One can find silversmiths and wooden furniture makers. Weavers abound and can be found threading tapestries, quilts and carpets. The city nickname, Piri, is affectionately given by its citizens and tourists. It has an irresistible charm and holds a privileged position in the mantle of Brazilian tourism locations.

Vargem Grande Reservation

A Private Heritage Reservation with an infrastructure to host different types of tourist, tastes, and ages. It has two waterfalls, the first one, Santa Maria waterfall, is accessible through a paved trail of 400m through the forest and it is surrounded by a beautiful white sand beach, great for a refreshing diving and relaxing. The more adventurous visitors can visit The Lázaro waterfall, accessible through a trail of 1.500m, surrounded by exquisite examples of the unique flora of the Savannah (Cerrado).

Abade Waterfall

Abade waterfall is one of the highest and most beautiful waterfalls in the Pireneus range (Serra Dos Pireneus). It has a great infrastructure with restrooms and places to snack at the visitor center, it’s easy and paved trails lead to the main waterfall, with 22 meters of free fall surrounded by a pleasant white sand beach. Other small trails are available to enjoy beautiful natural swimming pools formed by canyons from the River of Souls. The setting is not only for contemplation and relaxation, but also for more adventurous tourism, such as canyon trails and rappel at the waterfall.
