The ambassador of Belgium to Brazil, Mr. Patrick Herman, received guests for a luncheon at the official residence of Belgium on October 21st, 2021. The event was attended by the Deputy Head of Delegation of the European Union in Brasil, Minister Counsellor Ana Beatriz Martins and First Secretary of the European Union Delegation Christoph Oversohl, and it was a tribute to the Associação Brasileira de Jornalistas e Comunicadores da Área Internacional e Diplomática – ABRAJINTER (Brazilian Association of Journalists and Communicators of the International and Diplomatic Area), which invited its members to the meeting where themes such as the interaction of the press with cities in our time was analyzed , as well as the presentation of the city of Brussels as the center of the press in Europe. The event also had a roundtable with the theme “Brasília, a praça do 5º poder?” (Brasilia, the plaza of the 5th power?).

The guests socialized in the social rooms – where an environment was set up for the presentations – and the balconies of the beautiful residence, located in the “Setor de Embaixadas Sul” (South Embassies Sector) of Brasília. 

  

After the arrival of the guests, the ambassador of Belgium made a welcome speech for the presence of all and congratulated journalist Fabiana Ceyhan for the creation of ABRAJINTER and for her great responsibility leading an association of professionals specialized in producing reliable information about the reality of international events and diplomats, fighting the growing fake news industry in the world. The ambassador, Mr. Patrick Herman, also thanked the Minister Counsellor of the European Union Delegation in Brazil, Ms. Ana Beatriz Martins, for participating as a speaker at the event. Ms. Fabiana Ceyhan and Ms. Ana Beatriz Martins also spoke to the journalists present and thanked the ambassador for the initiative in organizing the event. Event participants received a bag with books and informational materials about Belgium and the role of the European Union, as well as ecological gifts and Belgian chocolates.

The ambassador of Belgium, Mr. Patrick Herman, then started a presentation on the current situation of cities, communications and the important role of the press in the current scenario. Following that, Minister Counsellor Ana Beatriz Martins made a presentation about the city of Brussels as the Capital of Media in Europe. Among the information disclosed, it was highlighted that there are over 1300 journalists and technical staff reporting from Brussels and that there are 500 different press, broadcast and online media companies from over 60 countries in the city. Ms. Martins also presented information on press activities of the European Union in Brazil, as well as shared useful links and tips to the journalists. 

  

Then began the round table “Brasília, a praça do 5º poder?” (Brasilia, the plaza of the 5th power?), in which the Belgian ambassador Patrick Herman and the President of ABRAJINTER Fabiana Ceyhan coordinated the participation of journalists on subjects related to the theme. The round table ended with applause from all guests to the organizers. 

  

After the round table, the Ambassador of Belgium, Mr. Patrick Herman, invited everyone to the dinner hall and the verandas of the residence, where a lunch of Belgian and Brazilian cuisine was served to everyone, accompanied by the world-famous Belgian beers. A special cake was offered by the “Jornal de Brasília” newspaper to celebrate the friendship between Brazil and Belgium and also the birthday of journalist Marcelo Chaves. All guests fraternized that beautiful afternoon and congratulated the ambassador of Belgium, Mr. Patrick Herman, for the success of the beautiful event.
