Due to many, if not all, cultural activities being suspended around the country, it has been difficult for people to find entertainment outside of the usual sources, such as television and the internet. However, with such limitations, new opportunities arise for cultural spaces to spread its art pieces around the world.

Some museums and famous tourist attractions around the world offer virtual tours with 360º technology through the capture of satellite images, but everything has become even more realistic and accessible with the partnership with Google. They have developed a specific culture and art platform, Arts & Culture, formerly titles Google art project, which uses street view technology to provide free virtual tours to art galleries around the world. In addition, the site also provides information on art history, compiles works by famous artists and divides the collections in a thematic way.

THE GUIDE brings to you more examples of the museums and tourist attractions that provide online tours by the means of this platform:

Palace of Sintra, Sintra – Portugal:

Not far outside of Lisbon, the twin conical chimneys of the ornate Palacio Nacional de Sintra (National Palace of Sintra) rise up from the hills. The lavishly-decorated royal residence dates back to Moorish times, and has been expanded and renovated by many a ruler since, giving it a unique mix of Gothic, Manueline, Moorish and Mudéjar styles.

Skokloster Castle, Sweden:

The baroque Skokloster Slott (Skokloster Castle) was built by Carl Gustaf Wrangel, a high-ranking Swedish nobleman and military commander. Unfortunately, Wrangel passed away in 1676 before the interior was fully completed, so part of the castle – known as the Unfinished Hall – remains in the same state that the builders left it in when they vacated after their employer’s death. In the tour you can see the huge collection of paintings and fancy decorations held within the castle.

Theatro Municial, São Paulo – Brazil:

Situated in the city of São Paulo, the Theatro Municipal (Municipal Theater) is mainly constructed from materials imported from Europe, as was the custom when it was built in 1903. The beautiful  stage decorations didn’t arrive in time for the opening night, so its first staged production had to be postponed. The virtual tour offers a full view of the venue and its beautiful decoration and a 360° video of Richard Wagner’s famous opera Lohengrin, performed at the Theatro Municipal.
