On the night of May 3rd, the Embassy of India promoted the launch of the “AZADI KA AMRIT MAHOTSAV”, which are the celebrations of the 75th anniversary of the Independence of India. On that occasion, the ambassador of that country, Mr. Suresh Reddy, and other Indian diplomats received a small and select group of guests, including representatives of the Senate, the Chamber of Deputies and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as journalists and personalities from Brasilia’s society.

The embassy had a special decoration set up for the event.

The event followed safety and health protocols for the pandemic and was held in the open-air areas of the embassy. The guests sat down in a safe distance and were wearing masks. A large screen was installed at the venue selected for the event, where videos about India were broadcast.

After the arrival of the guests, the event started with the lighting of the Lamp by the Guests of Honor. Then guests watched a video titled “Peace Prayer”.

The ambassador of India, Mr. Suresh Reddy, delivered a speech in which he welcomed the guests and stressed the importance of the celebration and the achievements of his country since its independence. His speech was followed by the presentation of the video about Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.

Brazilian government officials delivered speeches saluting the people of India and their history of struggles, victories and progress. The speakers were: Ambassador Marcia Donner Abreu, from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, congressman Vinícius Carvalho (by video), congressman Daniel Coelho and Senator Nelson Trad.

Among the speeches, the guests watched a short clip about “Sepoy Mangal Pandey” – The first Revolt. They also watched the video “India the Spirit of Freedom”. The event ended with a beautiful presentation of the Bharatanatyam dance performed by the dancer Mirabai.

After the event, everyone went to the outside area of ​​the embassy, ​​where a dinner with typical Indian food was served. The guests enjoyed the event while following the safety measures and masks were only removed for a few seconds for the photographic records.
