Belgium Embassy organizes inaugural cocktail for cartoon exhibit
The Kingdom of Belgium Embassy, in association with the University of Brasília’s (UnB) central library, hosted dozens of guests on June 5th for the inaugural cocktail of the cartoon exhibit Os Faróis das Histórias em Quadrinhos Belgas.
Amongst the guests were ambassadors and foreign diplomats; journalists; businessman; students and members of Brasília’s society. Prominent Belgium cartoonist Flore Balthazar, who was attending the International Cartoon Festival in Belo Horizonte, came to Brasília to honor the exhibit.
The exhibit showcases dozens of historical covers from one of the most celebrated cartoon schools in the world. Characters like Tin Tin and The Smurfs are internationally recognized and are amongst various created in that beautiful European country.
After the arrival of the guests, Belgium ambassador Mr Dirk Loncke gave a speech regarding the importance of comic books and presented a few covers and artwork from the magazines. The ambassador also thanked UnB representatives for being part of the successful cultural event.
The exhibit can be attended at Espaço POP (also located in UnB’s central library) which is a venue dedicated to encourage cartoon research. Espaço POP has a 700 cartoon collection for public consultation.
THE GUIDE congratulates the Belgium Embassy and UnB’s Central Library for hosting the important cultural event!
