To celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Independence of its country, the embassy of India has promoted several events in order to celebrate the occasion, among them a kite festival at Esplanada dos Ministérios and a yoga class at the embassy.
Kite Festival:
The Kite Festival took place on January 14th, at the “Esplanada dos Ministérios”, and was open to the public, who attended the event on a beautiful sunny afternoon along with members of the Indian community in Brasília. The ambassador of India, Mr. Suresh Reddy, and other diplomats from India welcomed everyone with the well-known friendliness of the Indian people.
Among the audience there were journalists, diplomats and Brazilian government officials. The children who attended the event enjoyed themselves with the wonderful kites flying in the beautiful blue sky of Brasilia.
Another great moment of the event was the presentation of a beautiful painting, carried out by the young Tusharkant Pradhan, son of the Minister of the Embassy of India, Mr. B.C. Pradhan, currently Chargé d’Affaires a.i.
Flag Raising:
On the morning of January 26th, the embassy celebrated Republic Day with a flag-raising ceremony outside the embassy.
The Embassy’s Chargé d’Affaires, Minister B.C. Pradham, led the tribute in the presence of diplomats, members of the Indian community in Brasilia and guests.
After the flag was raised, everyone went to the social hall of the embassy, where Minister Pradhan gave a speech on the importance of India’s independence and the great growth of his country since then, being today one of the largest democracies in the world. After the speech, everyone watched a video about India’s recent history and its achievements as an independent country.
The event ended with the embassy paying homage to outstanding personalities in Brasília for the government of India. After the homage, everyone enjoyed a special breakfast with typical cuisine from that beautiful country.
Yoga Class:
On the afternoon of January 26th, dozens of people attended the embassy to participate in a yoga class, in the SURYA NAMASKAR (Sun Salutation) modality, conducted by the Yoga master Mr. Thadeu Martins.
The event was opened by the Chargé d’Affaires of the Indian Embassy, Minister B.C. Pradhan, who welcomed everyone and delivered a speech on the creation of the International Day of Yoga in 2014 and the growing importance of popularizing yoga around the world among people who seek the holistic development of physical health and mental well-being. He also explained about the integral part of yoga called Suryanamaskar, a chain of twelve postures each generating a unique and magnificent benefit to the body, mind and soul.
After Mr. Pradhan’s speech, the class started and people could feel the energy coming from the suryanamaskar. After the class, the yoga master, Mr. Thadeu Martins, was presented with a book about India and all participants were invited to enjoy a snack with Indian cuisine. The embassy said it will hold yoga sessions every month.
