“Dear friends,

I would like to welcome you all at our reception dedicated to the Republic Day – day of
independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan. This year we mark 103rd anniversary of the
Independence of Azerbaijan.

On May 28, 1918, the Democratic Republic of Azerbaijan, the first secular democracy in the
Muslim world was proclaimed.

In 1991 after the collapse of the Soviet Union, Azerbaijan has restored its independence and
immediately faced many external and internal challenges but due to the strategic vision and wise
policy of Heydar Aliyev, national leader of Azerbaijan, the country has managed to
overcome these challenges and achieve stability and prosperity.

Today the Azerbaijan, under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, became one of the most
politically and economically stable county of the region and the world. Through realization of
trans-regional energy, transportation, logistics infrastructure and many other projects,
Azerbaijan became a regional leader and now represents more than half of GDP of the South
Caucasian region.

Located on the crossroads of cultures and civilizations, Azerbaijan, whose territory was part of
the ancient Silk Route, now houses a modern and secular society who proud of its diversity.

Talking about the main challenge that Azerbaijan have faced since restoration of its
independence in 1991, we need to state that military aggression of the Republic of Armenia and
occupation of 20% of Azerbaijani lands was ended in 2020, as a result of 44 days war. November
10, 2020 leaders of Azerbaijan, Russian and Armenia signed join declaration which put into the
end this conflict. Azerbaijan liberated its lands and restored sovereignty over its internationally
recognized borders. Now Government of Azerbaijan is concentrated on rehabilitation of this
lands, restoring communications in the region, returns of the refugees to their houses and
peacebuilding measures.

Azerbaijan has always realized and realizes independent, balanced and multidimensional foreign
policy. Our country has proven to be a trusted partner to cooperate at global, regional and subregional levels. Azerbaijan attaches great importance to large-scale development of relations
with Brazil.

It is important to mentioned that in 2017 for the first time in our bilateral relations Minister of
External Relations of Federative Republic of Brazil payed official visit to Azerbaijan and in May
2019 President of National Congress, Mr. Rodrigo Maia, payed second official visit to Azerbaijan
where he was awarded with medal of the Parliament of Azerbaijan for his dedication to
development and strengthen relations between our countries. Numerous different levels
bilateral visits have been implemented before global pandemic forced to limit our
communications and move to virtual world but we have numerous plans for a future!

Azerbaijan and Brazil enjoy excellent relations and in recent years has developed a positive
dynamic via political dialog, the growing volume of trade, official and working visits and interparliamentary exchanges in the fields of culture, youth, education and sport.

We confident that Azerbaijan and Brazil have more opportunities for deepening relations and
through the joint efforts the ties between Azerbaijan and the Brazil will be even more closely in
the coming years.

Similarly to the last year, due to the Covid-19 pandemic our Embassy decided to celebrate this
important date via series of charity events aimed to support vulnerable part of local population.
Among such event we can name donation to school children and teachers of the municipal
school in Rio de Janeiro named after Azerbaijan 800 security masks, 100 food parcels to the
charity organization Associação Jovens do Futuro in Sao Paulo and support of the habitants of
Azerbaijan streets in San Paulo. In this difficult for entire world moment, we committed
ourselves to the activities which will bring the benefits to the mort effected people and wants
express deep gratitude to all and everyone, who joined to our joie and sent their greetings in
connection with celebration of the Republic Day of Azerbaijan! Thanks a lot!!”
