From February 25th to 28th, as part of the Carnival warm-up, the band “Baile do Maestro Cupijó” will perform at Caixa Cultural in Brasília, extolling the best of the rich cultural and musical heritage of the Amazon region, specifically the Baixo-Tocantins. The band celebrates the traditional rhythms of northern Brazil, bringing a lot of innovation and genius to the music.
The big band, made up of 10 musicians in total, presents classics by Mestre Cupijó and new interpretations of the siriá, mambo and banguê rhythms. The four-day festival exalts the authentic musicality of the region, transporting the audience to a true cultural experience of the Amazon.
Mestre Cupijó (1936-2012) was an icon of Pará music and a pioneer in the dissemination of Amazonian rhythms. His first album, “Siriá”, from 1974, turned fifty in 2024. He helped popularize Brazilian rhythms such as siriá, banguê and samba de cacete. In 2022, siriá was recognized as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Pará, and in 2023, Mestre Cupijó’s work received the same title in the state of Pará.
The performance on Thursday 27th will feature a Libras interpreter and a chat after the show about Mestre Cupijó’s influence on national music and the cultural heritage of the Amazon.

De 25 a 28 de fevereiro no esquenta do Carnaval a banda “Baile do Maestro Cupijó” se apresentará na Caixa Cultural de Brasília exaltando o melhor da rica herança cultural e musical da região amazônica, especificamente do Baixo-Tocantins. A banda celebra os ritmos tradicionais do norte do Brasil trazendo muita inovação e genialidade à música.
A grande banda, formada por 10 músicos no total, apresenta clássicos de Mestre Cupijó e novas interpretações dos ritmos siriá, mambo e banguê. São quatro dias de festa exaltando a musicalidade autêntica da região, transportando o público para uma verdadeira experiência cultural da Amazônia.
Mestre Cupijó (1936-2012) foi um ícone da música paraense e pioneiro na divulgação de ritmos amazônicos. Seu primeiro disco, “Siriá”, de 1974, completou cinquenta anos em 2024. Ele ajudou a popularizar ritmos brasileiros, como o siriá, banguê e samba de cacete. Em 2022, o siriá foi reconhecido como Patrimônio Cultural Imaterial do Pará, e em 2023, a obra de Mestre Cupijó recebeu o mesmo título no Estado do Pará.
A apresentação do dia 27, quinta-feira, contará com intérprete de Libras e um bate-papo, após o show, sobre a influência do Mestre Cupijó na música nacional e a herança cultural da Amazônia.
