Art Exhibition 50 anos de Realismo

From February 5th to April 28th, the Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil – CCBB in Brasília hosts the exhibition “50 anos de realismo – Do fotorrealismo à realidade virtual” (50 years of realism – from photorealism to virtual reality). Visitation can be done from Tuesday to Sunday, from 9am to 9pm.

Painters dedicated to the contemporary lines of hyper-realism have a special place in the exhibition. Both urban and natural landscapes by artists Ben Johnson, Raphaella Spence and Hildebrando de Castro share space with the portraits of Craig Wylie, Simon Hennessey and Javier Banegas.

The hyper realistic sculpture also has a space dedicated to it with three-dimensional works of sculptors from several generations, such as Giovani Caramello, John De Andrea and Peter Land. There will be also an area, which brings the future to the exhibition, with virtual reality works by Akihiko Taniguchi, Bianca Kennedy, Fiona Valentine Thomann and Regina Silveira.

In addition to the works on display, the event will also bring a debate about realism in contemporary times, on February 5th, at 7:30pm. The debate will be mediated by exhibition curator Tereza de Arruda and will feature Maggie Bollaert, a hyper-realistic art expert and consultant to the event, the artists Hildebrando de Castro and Andreas Nicholas-Fischer.
