From September 2020 until March 2021, the Espaço Oscar Niemeyer, at the Praça dos Três Poderes, will be holding an art exhibit called “Brasília em Linhas” (Brasilia in Lines).
In “Brasília em Linhas”, the artist Jailson Belfort portrays and pays homage to Brasilia by placing icons and visual references of the capital in dialogue, but worked under the artist’s aesthetics. The 60 works that make up the exhibition are made in two colors each. The vivid color of the ball pens with shades of pink, blue, purple and orange, for example, fit to portray the sky of Brasilia. In the construction of the image, he uses the lines and colors of the ballpoint pens, as well as Gestalt theories of shadow, light, figure, background and angle.
Belfort’s look at monuments is also an artist’s strategy to escape realism. It is in the contrast of lines and colors with white space that he reveals elements and characteristics that remind the viewer to Niemeyer’s traces, for example.
