The Ambassador of Belgium, Mr. Jozef Smets, received guests at the Embassy on July 4 for the inauguration of the bust in honor of Queen Elisabeth of the Belgians (1876-1965). The event had the presence of Princess Maria-Esmeralda of Belgium.

Among the guests there were the governor of the state of Acre and wife, Mr. Tião Viana and Mrs. Marlúcia Candida, the wife of the governor of the Distrito Federal (Federal District), Mrs. Marcia Rollemberg, foreign and Brazilian diplomats, businessmen and personalities of Brasilia society. The guests gathered in the yard in front of the embassy.

The Belgian ambassador, Mr. Jozef Smets and Princess of Belgium, Mrs. Maria-Esmeralda, gave speeches of appreciation for the presence of all and highlighting the example of life of Queen Elisabeth of the Belgians. The ambassador of Germany, Mr. Dirk Brengelmann, also gave a speech about the importance of Queen Elisabeth of the Belgians. After the speeches, a poem by Carlos Drummond de Andrade, a famous Brazilian poet, was read by the illustrious citizen, Mrs.Lucia Garofalo.

After the tributes, Jozef Smets ambassador and Maria-Esmeralda princess inaugurated the bust of Queen Elisabeth of the Belgians, much applauded by all guests. Then, the ambassador invited everyone for a wine of honor, served in the open air area of ​​the Embassy.
