On April 28, 2025, the Embassy of Vietnam in Brasília held a solemn event to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the country’s reunification and the 135th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh’s birth, bringing together diplomats, Brazilian authorities, journalists, and guests in a program that blended historical memory and future perspectives.

The ceremony began at 5:30 PM, with hosts Ambassador Bui Van Nghi and Junior Military Attaché welcoming attendees, who were invited to view a photographic exhibition featuring pivotal moments in Vietnamese history. The display included scenes from the fall of Saigon in 1975, such as the helicopter evacuation from the U.S. Embassy and the surrender of then-President Duong Van Minh and his puppet ministers. After a relaxed moment with tea and coffee service, guests explored the exhibition in the embassy yards, with explanations provided by the diplomatic team.

The program continued with video screenings showcasing Vietnam’s transformation in recent decades, including the short film “50 Flashes”, which highlighted the beauty and dynamism of Ho Chi Minh City as a tourist destination. In his speech, Ambassador Bui Van Nghi paid an emotional tribute to Ho Chi Minh’s legacy, emphasizing his pivotal role in the struggle for independence and national reunification. The diplomat underscored Vietnam’s commitment to freedom, social justice, and sustainable development, citing investments in quality education and technological innovation as pillars of national progress.

Mr. Eduardo Saboia, Secretary for Asia and the Pacific at Brazil’s Foreign Ministry, then took the floor to reaffirm ties between Brazil and Vietnam, recalling President Lula’s recent visit to the Asian country as a milestone in deepening bilateral cooperation in trade, science, and technology.

The closing remarks were delivered by Pedro Oliveira, President of the Brazil-Vietnam Friendship Association, who quoted one of Ho Chi Minh’s best-known sayings on the universality of the pursuit of human well-being, bridging Eastern and Western thinkers. He highlighted how relations between the two countries exemplify this complementarity.

The event concluded in a spirit of camaraderie, with guests participating in a group photo session before moving to a dinner that extended conversations and celebrations into the night, marking another chapter in the friendship and cooperation between Brazil and Vietnam.
