As Brasília marks its 65th anniversary this April, one of the city’s most iconic cultural landmarks — Cine Brasília — is celebrating in grand cinematic style. From April 19 to 21, the theater will host a special screening series titled “Brasílias em Cena” (“Brasília On Screen”), offering free admission to all sessions on a first-come, first-served basis.
This thoughtful and diverse film lineup showcases 13 productions that reflect the multifaceted identity of Brazil’s capital. From poetic urban tales and political activism to heroic fiction and historical documentaries, the films place Brasília at the heart of the narrative — capturing its soul, complexities, and evolution through the lens of talented Brazilian filmmakers.
The Brasílias em Cena series is more than just a birthday tribute; it’s also a celebration of the city’s vibrant and often overlooked cinematic output. It invites both residents and visitors to explore Brasília’s cultural richness in an immersive, artistic experience.
Opened just one day after the official founding of Brasília in 1960, Cine Brasília is nearly as old as the city itself. Over the past six decades, it has grown to become much more than a movie theater. It is a cultural monument — a space where generations have connected through film, and where Brasília’s identity has been both shaped and projected onto the big screen.
This cinematic tribute offers a unique opportunity for the international community in Brasília to connect more deeply with the local culture through stories that are intimate, bold, and quintessentially Brazilian. Whether you’re passionate about film, history, or simply seeking a meaningful cultural experience, Brasílias em Cena is a must-see series this anniversary season.
