On January 30, the Australian Embassy hosted an event to celebrate 80 years of diplomatic relations between Australia and Brazil. The reception took place at the Clube de Engenharia de Brasília, in the Setor de Clubes Sul, and was attended by Brazilian government officials, diplomatic representatives, business leaders, and members of civil society.
Upon arrival, guests were welcomed and guided through an exhibition featuring works by Australian artists, leading to a reception by the Australian ambassador Sophie Davies. Guests fraternized in the club’s social halls and balconies, which offer a beautiful view of the Lake Paranoá.
Elements of the Australian culture were present throughout the event, including people with costumes of iconic animals such as the kangaroo and the koala. During the evening, the ambassador delivered a speech highlighting the strengthening of bilateral relations over the decades. The Secretary of Asia and the Pacific at the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Eduardo Paes Saboia, also delivered a speech emphasizing the cooperation between the two countries.

The event also featured a raffle for a round-trip ticket to Australia for two people. The evening concluded with a dinner showcasing traditional Australian cuisine, accompanied by popular Australian music. Guest fraternized and enjoyed the beautiful celebration!
