The Banco do Brasil Museum, inaugurated in October 2016, announced the “Acervos do Brasil” exhibition to be held in the Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil. The works gather the importance of presenting to the public historical moments of the Brazilian economy and gather important works of art from different periods of the country; it is an unprecedented gathering of paintings, sculptures, and items that tell part of the country’s economic history. The museum has a large area and counts with an elegant hall to welcome people while offering a view of one of the most important sights in Brasília, the “Ponte JK” bridge.

The works of art in the “Acervos do Brasil” are divided into three sections: History; Culture and Citizenship; and Innovation. The sections bring together decorative art pieces, paintings, engravings, and sculptures by important names in visual arts, such as paintings by artists linked to modernism in Brazil like Alfredo Volpi and Di Cavalcanti. The exhibited works were researched, and several discoveries were made in various places all over Brazil, as items linked to the evolution of banking activities in Brazil, such as documents of historical value, coins, equipment, objects, and furniture were found in the research. In total, the exhibition holds 76 works by artists such as Carlos Scliar, Aldemir Martins, Djanira, Arcangelo Ianelli, Wega Nery, and Darel Valença Lins.

Sculptor and painter Rubem Valentim is represented with textured artworks made out of wood that participated in the I International Biennial of Constructivist Art in Nuremberg, Germany, in 1969. The show presents abstract geometric works by Abelardo Zaluar and Dionísio del Santo. Japanese artists, who moved to Brazil, Manabu Mabe, Tomie Ohtake, Kazuo Wakabayashi, and Tikashi Fukushima represent lyrical abstractionism.

There are also works by Athos Bulcão and Burle Marx, symbols of Brasilia’s architecture and linked to the country’s modernization project in the second half of the 20th century.
