Since November 24th, 2021, the “Memorial dos Povos Indígenas” (Memorial of Indigenous Peoples – MPI) has reopened its doors with a brand-new permanent exhibition.
Receiving the exhibition “Mais de 12 mil anos nesta terra” (Over 12 thousand years in this land), the “Memorial dos Povos Indígenas” has reopened on Wednesday (November 24th). The exhibition, which brings together 300 pieces from 15 nations of native peoples from around the country, brings a fraction of the batch of eight thousand artifacts seized by the Federal Police in the fight against the smuggling of indigenous objects and was donated to the memorial. With the donation, the MPI becomes the second largest institution in safeguarding the memory of indigenous peoples.
The exhibition will have five sections: feathers, ceramics, basketwork, masks and tactile. The tactile display sector is new to the memorial, in which visitors will be able to handle objects such as maracas, for example. The items that make up this part of the exhibition are those that are more resistant and that exist in duplicate in the collection.
In addition to the new exhibit, visitors will find a revitalized MPI. During the pandemic, the site received an investment of more than BRL 500.000, which resulted in the replacement of the floor, painting, cleaning and improvements in the signaling and fire-fighting system.

A exposição terá cinco seções: penas, cerâmica, cestaria, máscaras e tátil.
