Some museums and famous tourist attractions around the world offer virtual tours with 360º technology through the capture of satellite images, but everything has become even more realistic and accessible with the partnership with Google. They have developed a specific culture and art platform, Arts & Culture, formerly titles Google art project, which uses street view technology to provide free virtual tours to art galleries around the world. In addition, the site also provides information on art history, compiles works by famous artists and divides the collections in a thematic way.

Tour 13, Paris:

The Tour 13 (Tower 13) was originally a 10-story residential building used in a low-income housing project and scheduled to be demolished in 2014. Mehdi Ben Cheikh, a Tunisian-born art teacher and founder of the Galerie Itinerrance, obtained the rights for an art exhibition in the tower as part of a collaboration with Jérôme Coumet, the mayor of the 13th arrondissement of Paris, to “invite well known urban artists to create a collective open air museum.” Cheikh spent six months gathering 80 street artists from 18 countries to decorate the interior and exterior of the building. Notable artists who worked on Tower 13 include EL Seed, A1one, Guy Denning, C215, 108, and Add Fuel.  The online tour has a floor selection on the right side of the screen, use it to see more of the tower’s floors.

 

Machu Picchu, Peru:

A UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the new seven wonders of the world, the city of Machu Picchu is a 15th-century Inca citadel, located in the Eastern Cordillera of southern Peru, on a 2,430-metre mountain ridge. It is located in the Cusco Region, Urubamba Province, Machupicchu District, above the Sacred Valley, which is 80 kilometres (50 mi) northwest of Cuzco. The Urubamba River flows past it, cutting through the Cordillera and creating a canyon with a tropical mountain climate. Often mistakenly referred to as the “Lost City of the Incas”, it is the most familiar icon of Inca civilization. The Incas built the estate around 1450 but abandoned it a century later at the time of the Spanish conquest.

 

Museu Nacional de Belas Artes, Rio de Janeiro:

The Museu Nacional de Belas Artes (National Museum of Fine Arts) is a museum located in the city of Rio de Janeiro, it has the biggest archive of art from the 19th century in Brazil, making it one of the country’s most important museums. The museum’s collection started with the set of works of art brought by the Portuguese emperor Dom João VI, in 1808, and was expanded throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries with the incorporation of the collection of the Escola Nacional de Belas Artes (National School of Fine Arts) and other acquisitions, and today it has about 15,000 pieces, including paintings, sculptures, drawings and prints by Brazilian and foreign artists, as well as a collection of decorative art, furniture, folk art and a set of African art pieces. The tour given by Google Arts and Culture does not feature the street view technology, however it does offer a 360° view of many spots around the museum.
