The Embassy of Chile in Brazil is honored to invite the public to virtually participate in the first time presentation at the SP ARTE 2020 at the Artespacio Gallery in Santiago de Chile, one of the most important in the country, which will take place from August 24 to 30 and will count with the presence of Chilean and international artists.
There will also be two roundtables with the participating artists on Tuesday 25 and Thursday 27 at noon (Brasilia time and 11 a.m. local time Chile).
The text below, written by Mr. Raphael Fonseca, explains about the exhibitions:
“The Artespacio gallery brings artists that can be seen from two lines of research: the stories of abstraction and the many ways of thinking about the appropriation of images.
The works of Benjamin Ossa, Francisca Benedetti and Francisca Garriga – born and residing in Chile – discuss the exploration of color and experimentation with different materials.
Garriga works with wood and from it she creates areas of color that invite the public’s body, while Benedetti explores shape in a similar way, but through the use of paper. Repetition, filling and subtle changes guide the research of both always through the bias of craft making.
Ossa’s works use industrial materials that invite the viewer to contemplate their reflection and the double of what surrounds them; physicality and virtuality mix. The dialogue with the concept of abstraction is something that seems to interest all of these artists.
The gallery also features the work of Máximo Corvalán, Leonardo Finotti and Glenda León. The first, also Chilean, uses the records of fungi and expands on them, writing on them words that refer to the passage of time and the conservation of the araucaria trees. The equation between image and text, something so dear to art history, is of interest to the artist.
Finotti, a Brazilian photographer, “appropriates” several examples of architecture and landscaping and presents them in powerful black-and-white printed angles.
Finally, Cuban artist Glenda León shows works in different formats: installation, a recent drawing and the appropriation of objects. The relationship between body and nature is central to both.
When observing the artists selected by Artespacio, we have a possible panorama of issues that dialogue with something of interest to the gallery: the production of contemporary art in Latin America”

“A galeria Artespacio traz artistas que podem ser vistos a partir de duas linhas de pesquisa: as histórias da abstração e as muitas maneiras de se pensar a apropriação de imagens.
Os trabalhos de Benjamin Ossa, Francisca Benedetti e Francisca Garriga – nascidos e residentes no Chile – dialogam pela exploração da cor e experimentação de materiais diversos.
Garriga trabalha com a madeira e a partir dela cria áreas de cor que convidam o corpo do público, ao passo que Benedetti explora a forma de maneira semelhante, mas através do uso do papel. Repetição, preenchimento e alterações sutis guiam a pesquisa de ambas sempre pelo viés de um fazer artesanal.
Já os trabalhos de Ossa se utilizam de materiais industriais que convidam o espectador a contemplar o seu reflexo e o duplo daquilo que o rodeia; fisicalidade e virtualidade se misturam. O diálogo com a abstração é algo que parece interessar a todos esses artistas.
A galeria também traz o trabalho de Máximo Corvalán, Leonardo Finotti e Glenda León. O primeiro, também chileno, utiliza de registros de fungos e os amplia, escrevendo sobre eles palavras que remetem à passagem do tempo e à conservação da araucária. A equação entre imagem e texto, algo tão caro à história da arte, é do interesse do artista.
Finotti, um fotógrafo brasileiro, se “apropria” de diversos exemplos de arquitetura e paisagismo e os apresenta em potentes ângulos impressos em preto-e-branco.
Por fim, a artista cubana Glenda León mostra trabalhos em diferentes formatos: instalação, um desenho recente e a apropriação de objetos. A relação entre corpo e natureza é central a ambos.
Ao observar os artistas selecionados pela Artespacio, temos um possível panorama de questões que dialogam com algo do interesse da galeria: a produção de arte contemporânea na América Latina.”
