Cinema Nervi is a videoart project which offers an enriching contemporary and experimental contribution to the exhibition “Pier Luigi Nervi, Structure and Beauty”, dedicated to the work of the world-renowned Italian architectural engineer, on display in the temporary exhibition spaces at Manifattura Tabacchi.


The famous Italian engineer Pier Luigi Nervi, author of great works around the world, left a dazzling and significant trait too in Brasilia: he is the author of the architectural project of the Embassy of Italy, a building that, even today, is a destination for visitors and has always been the subject of studies and publications. Furthermore, Nervi’s story crosses Brazil also due to the historical friendship between the engineer and great architect Lina Bo Bardi. The video about the Italian Embassy in Brasilia will be online on January 26th.


From a new perspective, Cinema Nervi invites you to rediscover the value and the cultural importance of Pier Luigi Nervi, whose long-standing activity guided by the idea of architecture as an art form, a vision that is found in the historical heritage that the engineer left us as legacy.


The project is carried out in collaboration with “Parasite 2.0”, a collective based in Milan, London and Brussels that investigates the state of human habitat through a hybrid of architecture, design and art, and involves 5 different studios of international architects, designers and artists : Lucia Tahan (Berlin), Club (San Paolo), The Pleasure Paradox (Milan, Amsterdam, Hamburg, Rotterdam), Anabel Garcia-Kurland (London) and Alessio Grancini (Los Angeles) are called to reinterpret some of Nervi’s architectures – respectively , O Palazzo del Lavoro in Turin, the Italian Embassy in Brasilia, the G. Berta Stadium (now Artemio Franchi) and Manifattura Tabacchi in Florence, the Unesco headquarters in Paris – through video and digital languages, unusual tools for architects of Nervi’s time.

Cinema Nervi é um projeto de videoarte que visa oferecer uma contribuição contemporânea e experimental à exposição “Pier Luigi Nervi, Estrutura e Beleza”, dedicada à obra do grande engenheiro italiano do século XX e instalada nos espaços expositivos da Manifattura Tabacchi de Florença.


O célebre engenheiro italiano Pier Luigi Nervi, autor de grandes obras em todo o mundo, deixou um traço deslumbrante e significativo também em Brasília: ele é o autor do projeto arquitetônico da Embaixada da Itália, um edifício que, ainda hoje, é destino de visitantes e sempre foi objeto de estudos e publicações. Além disso, a história de Nervi cruza o Brasil também pela amizade histórica entre o engenheiro e a grande arquiteta Lina Bo Bardi. O vídeo sobre a Embaixada da Itália em Brasília estará online no dia 26 de janeiro.


Desde uma nova perspectiva, o Cinema Nervi convida a redescobrir o valor e a importância cultural de Pier Luigi Nervi, cuja longa atividade se pautou pela ideia da arquitetura como forma de arte, visão esta que se encontra no património histórico que engenheiro nos deixou como legado.
