The new Belgian ambassador to Brazil, Mr. Dirk Loncke, received dozens of guests and dignitaries at the official residence on November 23 for the traditional King’s Day celebration.
On arrival the guests were warmly welcomed by the ambassador, his wife, Mrs. Chérine Touma and embassy diplomats. A beautiful table with Belgian chocolates and another one with informative material from that beautiful country were positioned at the entrance of the residence, announcing a memorable evening.
The lively celebration was supported by the three Belgian Regions: Flanders, Wallonia and Brussels-Capital. It also had the support of AmBev and De Halve Maan, with their Belgian beers; Lutosa and Devos Lemmens with the Belgian fries and sauces; Callebaut with the chocolate; and Lotus Bakeries and Jules Destrooper with the biscuits. Guests also sampled waffles served with the Lactalis whipped cream. The artistic attraction of the evening was the performance of Belgian DJ and producer, Dirk Swartenbroeckx, better known as DJ Buscemi. He enlivened the night with varied rhythms and kept the atmosphere of joy and happiness.
Ambassador Dirk Loncke gave a speech of thanks for the presence of all and emphasized the importance of the celebration of the King’s Day. The sympathy and joy shown in his speech deserved warm applause from the guests. All have no doubt that Ambassador Loncke will continue the excellent work done by his predecessor, Ambassador Jozef Smets.
At the end of the event, the guests received publicity materials about Belgium and all congratulated Ambassador Dirk Loncke, Ambassadress Chérine Touma and the Belgian diplomats and attachés for the beautiful celebration.
