On July 13th and 14th, Brasília will host an intense and thrilling theatrical work: “A Luta” “(The Struggle), starring Amaury Lorenzo, renowned for his work in the soap opera “Terra e Paixão”. Directed by Rose Abdallah and with dramaturgy by Ivan Jaf, the play is a monologue inspired by the book “Os Sertões” by Euclides da Cunha, promising to immerse the audience in the dramatic events of Canudos in 1896. “The Struggle” will be on stage at Teatro Unip in Brasília, offering the audience a profound reflection on history and its complexities through theatrical art.
Similar to the rhapsodes of Ancient Greece who kept Homer’s epics alive through oral tradition, “The Struggle” presents the history of the War of Canudos through the unique talent of an actor. Using voice and body, the play narrates the battles fought between the followers of Antônio Conselheiro and the military forces of the newly-proclaimed Brazilian Republic.
In “Os Sertões”, Euclides da Cunha transcends academic language to journalistically narrate the ideological and cultural conflicts that permeated Canudos. The work portrays the struggle between the modernizing republican forces and the religious obscurantism that supported the monarchy, as well as the clashes between Brazilians from the coast and the interior, elites and the common people, faith and reason.

No dia 13 e 14 julho, Brasília recebe uma obra teatral intensa e emocionante: “A Luta”, estrelada por Amaury Lorenzo, conhecido pelo seu trabalho na novela “Terra e Paixão”. Sob a direção de Rose Abdallah e com dramaturgia de Ivan Jaf, o espetáculo é um monólogo inspirado no livro “Os Sertões”, de Euclides da Cunha, e promete transportar o público para os eventos dramáticos ocorridos em Canudos, no ano de 1896. “A Luta” estará em cartaz no Teatro Unip em Brasília, proporcionando ao público uma reflexão profunda sobre a história e suas complexidades através da arte teatral.
Assim como os rapsodos da Grécia Antiga mantinham vivas as epopeias de Homero através da oralidade, “A Luta” apresenta a história da Guerra de Canudos através do talento singular de um ator. Utilizando voz e corpo, o espetáculo narra as batalhas travadas entre os seguidores de Antônio Conselheiro e as forças militares da recém-proclamada República Brasileira.
Euclides da Cunha, em “Os Sertões”, transcende a linguagem acadêmica para narrar journalisticamente os conflitos ideológicos e culturais que permearam Canudos. A obra retrata a luta entre as forças republicanas modernizadoras e o obscurantismo religioso que apoiava a monarquia, além dos embates entre os brasileiros do litoral e do interior, as elites e o povo, a fé e a razão.
