On the afternoon of June 11, 2024, the Embassy of the Czech Republic organized an event in memory of the tragedy of Lidice, a Czech city where most of its population was brutally murdered by the Nazis in the beginning of World War II.
The event took place in the open air areas of the embassy, located in the South Embassy Sector of Brasília, and was attended by foreign ambassadors, diplomats, Brazilian government officials, journalists and personalities from Brasília society. Guests were able to see photographs of Lídice and its citizens at the time of the tragedy and also in the present day on several frames and banners displayed throughout the venue.

The Ambassador of the Czech Republic, Ms. Pavla Havrlíková, gave a welcoming speech and reminded everyone of the terrible events in Lídice, which included the brutal murder of adults and children by Nazi forces. She stressed the importance of remembering the victims of that tragedy in order to prevent atrocities like that from ever happening again in the world. Her speech was widely applauded. Other authorities also spoke, including representatives of the Brazilian city of the same name, located in the state of Rio de Janeiro. In Brazil, many women also have the name Lidice.
