The Serviço Social do Comércio (SESC) has made several famous works of international literature available for free in a completely digital format.
The Serviço Social do Comércio (SESC) is a private Brazilian institution, maintained by businessmen in the trade of goods, services and tourism, operating throughout the national scope, focused primarily on the social well-being of its employees and family, but open to community in general. It operates in the areas of Education, Health, Leisure, Culture and Assistance. Its leisure and culture services are usually open for the public and made available for free, either online or in their many units located all over the country.
The Sesc Digital Literatura Livre project made available several works of African, Arab, Asian, European and Jewish literature, available in both Portuguese and English in a digital format. The books can be found on the project’s website and downloaded for free to read on any device. The books are available on the ePub, Kindle and PDF formats.
At the moment, six books are available. They are: African folktales Vol. 1 (In Portuguese: Contos folclóricos africanos Vol. 1), by Elphinstone Dayrell, George W. Bateman and Robert Hamill Nassau; Heart of Darkness (In Portuguese: Coração das trevas), by Joseph Conrad; Chronicles of Japan (In Portuguese: Crônicas do Japão), by Prince Toneri and O no Yassumaro; El Zarco, by Ignacio Manuel Altamirano; Leviathan (In Portuguese: O Leviatã), by Joseph Roth; and Gulliver’s Travels (In Portuguese: Viagens de Gulliver), by Jonathan Swift.
This project could serve as a good opportunity to improve upon your Portuguese by reading classic books written in both Portuguese and English.
