From March 7th to 9th, the play “Neta das Fogueiras” (granddaughter of fires) will take place at Sesc Estação on 504 South, inspired by the book “The Once and Future Witches” by Alix E. Harrow in honor of Women’s Month. 

A show created on the spot from the memories of our female ancestors. In Women’s Month we call on the wisdom of the women who came before us, who survived the fires, and we celebrate these grandmothers with great enchantment in the creation of a more present world such as theater. If a word with intent is a spell: let’s try it.

Synopsis: What if the witchcraft that burned our grandmothers was real? Magic, cures, incantations for anguish. And all this knowledge and power was burned with the women and the books. All that ancestral wisdom lost… No. Hidden in songs, embroidery and recipes. Based on what the women of our families have left us and taught us, each performance creates stories, songs, images and spells to change our world? Each audience awakens a different and unique spectacle, spells tailored to each shared memory. “There’s no such thing as witches, but there will be” (Alix E. Harrow).

Release: The book “The Once and Future Witches” by Alix E. Harrow starts from the premise that witchcraft was real. That women flew on broomsticks, turned people into animals, created potions to cure illnesses, made incantations for anguish and spells that showed immense power. An intense connection with nature and the supernatural flowed through time and space, bringing powerful wisdom. Fear of this world condemned them to the fires. Fear of knowledge condemned books to the fires. In Alix E. Harrow’s novel, three sisters find the secret of Avalon after discovering traces of this ancient feminine wisdom hidden in embroidery pictures, lullabies and recipes passed down from generation to generation.

This is the inspiration for the show “Netas das Fogueiras” (granddaughter of fires). A show that honors the wisdom passed down by women in the details of everyday life. On stage, three figures play out scenes, songs and philosophies of everyday life inspired entirely by the audience’s sharing of the wisdom and heritage of the women in their families. And it is these real-time, spontaneous and instantaneous compositions, which are always unique to each performance, that are the inspiration for the evening’s spell, which responds to a wish from the audience.

If we are the granddaughters and grandsons of the witches who couldn’t burn, we have the power to bring magic back into our lives. The power of theater, live encounters, improvisation and words spoken with intention create a book of contemporary and original spells, written collectively and scenically with the audience. “There’s no such thing as witches, but there will be” (Alix E. Harrow). And it will exist in a clan.

The show is conceived and directed by Luana Proença, who has been studying and working with instant dramaturgy and improvisation techniques since 2004. She has taught and performed in instant theater events in various countries such as the United States, Spain, Portugal, Bulgaria, the Netherlands, Austria, Sweden, Italy, Greece, Norway, Poland and Australia.

Do dia 7 a 9 de março acontecerá o teatro Neta das Fogueiras no Sesc Estação na 504 sul inspirado no livro “The Once and Future Witches” de Alix E. Harrow em homenagem ao mês da mulher. 

Um espetáculo criado no momento a partir de memórias das nossas ancestrais. No mês da mulher convocamos a sapiência das mulheres que vieram antes de nós, que sobreviveram às fogueiras, e celebramos essas avós com muito encantamento na criação de um mundo mais presente como o teatro. Se palavra com intento é feitiço: intentemos.

Sinopse: E se a bruxaria que queimou nossas avós fosse real? Magia, curas, encantamentos para angústias. E todo esse conhecimento e poder foram queimados com as mulheres e os livros. Toda uma sabedoria ancestral perdida… Não. Escondida nas canções, nos bordados, nas receitas. A partir do que as mulheres das nossas famílias nos deixaram e ensinaram, cada apresentação cria histórias, músicas, imagens e feitiços para mudar o nosso mundo? Cada público desperta um espetáculo diferente e único, feitiços sob medida para cada memória partilhada. “Não existe esse negócio de bruxas, mas vai existir” (Alix E. Harrow).

Release: O livro “The Once and Future Witches” de Alix E. Harrow parte da premissa de que a bruxaria foi real. Que mulheres voavam em vassouras, transformavam pessoas em bichos, criavam poções para curar enfermidades, faziam encantamentos para angústias e feitiços que mostravam um poder imenso. Uma conexão intensa com a natureza e o sobrenatural fluindo pelo tempo e espaço trazendo uma sabedoria poderosa. O medo desse mundo as condenou às fogueiras. O medo do saber condenou os livros às fogueiras. Na obra de Alix E. Harrow, três irmãs encontram o segredo de Avalon depois que percebem vestígios dessa sabedoria milenar feminina escondidos em quadros de bordados, em canções de ninar, em receitas passadas de geração em geração.

Essa é a inspiração para o espetáculo “Netas das Fogueiras”. Um espetáculo que honra a sabedoria passada nos detalhes do dia a dia pelas mulheres. Em cena 3 figuras jogam com cenas, músicas e filosofias da vida cotidiana inspiradas totalmente nas partilhas do público sobre as sabedorias e heranças das mulheres de suas famílias. E são essas composições realizadas em tempo real, espontâneas e instantâneas e por isso sempre únicas de cada apresentação, que são inspiração no feitiço da noite que vem a responder um desejo da plateia.

Se somos netas e netos das bruxas que não puderam queimar, temos o poder de devolver a magia às nossas vidas. O poder do teatro, do encontro ao vivo, da improvisação e da palavra dita com intenção criam um livro de feitiços contemporâneos e originais, escrito coletivamente e cenicamente com o público. “Não existe esse negócio de bruxas, mas vai existir” (Alix E. A concepção e direção do espetáculos são de Luana Proença que estuda e trabalha técnicas de dramaturgia instantânea e improvisação desde 2004 e possui pesquisas de mestrado e doutorado na área. Já lecionou e se apresentou em eventos de teatro instantâneo em diversos países como Estados Unidos, Espanha, Portugal, Bulgária, Países Baixos, Áustria, Suécia, Itália, Grécia, Noruega, Polônia e Austrália.
