On the evening of November 26, 2024, the International Academy of Culture held a major event at the Legislative Assembly of the Federal District. The 6th Arts and Literature Exhibition was inaugurated with more than 70 artistic works, many of which have won international awards. The Academy also inaugurated three new members and paid tribute to personalities who have made significant contributions to society through their work and professional performance.
The International Academy of Culture – AIC is a non-profit association, under private law, with 27 years of activity and whose mission is to bring together intellectuals from Brazil and other countries in the areas of arts, literature, music, science, philosophy, and international relations, promoting cultural exchange, with a view to peace and unity among peoples.
Among the guests at the event there were academics, Brazilian government officials, politicians, diplomats, businesspeople, professionals and artists from various fields. The president of the International Cultural Association, Mrs. Shirley Pontes, was responsible for producing the event and presided over the proceedings, together with members of the Academy’s board of directors.
Three new academics were sworn in: Mrs. Cleuza Brandão – filmmaker and screenwriter, Mrs. Hiromi Takano – psychologist, artist and writer, and Mrs. Isabel Barbosa – businesswoman and writer.
After the inauguration, the guests were amazed by the beautiful performance by the young violinist, just 11 years old, Valentina Magalhães, who masterfully performed Vivaldi’s piece Primavera. She was warmly applauded by everyone.
The tributes to the outstanding professionals began and each one received a Certificate of Recognition from the hands of a member of the academy. The honorees were the following:
Visual Arts: The artist Lourenço de Bem;
Science: Dr. Rodrigo Lima, a spinal surgeon;
Journalism: Mr. Pedro Paulo Moreira, CEO of the English-language media outlet THE GUIDE, aimed at embassies and international organizations;
Literature: Architect and writer Quélvia Heringer;
Literature: Psychologist and writer Dr. Rosa Graciela;
Music: Violinist Káthia Pinheiro;
Public Figure: Ms. Ilda Peliz
International Relations: Ambassador of Hungary, Mr. Miklós Halmai
The President of the International Academy of Culture and responsible for producing the event, Ms. Shirley Pontes, highlighted the importance of the event, which aims to pay tribute to people who make relevant contributions to society through their work and professional performance, and also the joy of holding the 6th AIC Collective Artists Exhibition.
To round off the special evening, after the tributes, everyone was invited to go to the Foyer of the Legislative Assembly, where the opening of the 6th Art and Literature Exhibition took place. The exhibition was curated by artist Socorro Mota.
The guests socialized and enjoyed the beautiful pieces of art on display, under the talented musical performance of violinist Khátia Pinheiro accompanied by Mr. PC Souza.
The guests congratulated the President of the International Academy of Culture – AIC, Mrs. Shirley Pontes and other members of the academy’s board, for the success of the important event.
