“O Julgamento de Sócrates “ (THE TRIAL OF SOCRATES) is a free adaptation of Plato’s “Apology of Socrates” by the award-winning author Ivan Fernandes with the actor Tonico Pereira in the title role. The play celebrates the 50-year career of the actor, who stars in a monologue for the first time.

The monologue dramatizes the defense of Socrates, in the judgment that sentenced him to death by poisoning. It is perhaps the first great case in the history of mankind of a man to be condemned for having ideas different from that established by society.

On the stage, Socrates alone, in neutral and timeless costumes, defends before the audience of “spectators-jurors” not only his ideas, but above all the right to have them. He defends the need to examine life from the ethical point of view and the search for wisdom, not material satisfaction.
