‘Major havoc, destruction once again thwarted,’ Prime Minister Narendra Modi thanks security forces a day after Nagrota encounter
The four terrorists belonged to Jaish-e-Mohammed which was planning a major attack on the anniversary of 26/11, officials have said.
A day after security forces eliminated four terrorists in the Nagrota area of Jammu district, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday congratulated the jawans for thwarting major havoc and destruction. “Neutralising of four terrorists belonging to Pakistan-based terrorist organisation Jaish-e-Mohammed and the presence of large cache of weapons and explosives with them indicates that their efforts to wreak major havoc and destruction have once again been thwarted,” PM Modi tweeted. 11 AK-47 rifles, three pistols and 29 grenades have been recovered from them.
On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a review meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval, Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla and top intelligence establishment over the Nagrota encounter in which four terrorists were neutralised. It has been found that the terrorists were planning a “major attack” on the anniversary of the 26/11 terror attack. “Our security forces have once again displayed utmost bravery and professionalism. Thanks to their alertness, they have defeated a nefarious plot to target grassroots level democratic exercises in Jammu and Kashmir,” PM Modi tweeted.
On Thursday, the encounter between terrorists and security forces broke out in the early hours near Ban Toll Plaza in the Nagrota area of Jammu district. The encounter lasted for three hours in which four terrorists were killed. The seizures have indicated that they were planning a big attack, Mukesh Singh, inspector-general of Police, Jammu Zone said. Their target could also be the DDC election in Jammu and Kashmir; the police have not ruled out the possibility. The elections will be held in eight phases between November 28 and December 19. The counting will be held on December 22.
“It’s possible that they were planning a big attack. This kind of seizure is unprecedented. It is possible that they were targeting the DDC election. However, we are investigating,” Singh said.
Their modus operandi was old which indicated that they were likely from the United Nations-designated terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM)

Na quinta-feira, o encontro entre terroristas e forças de segurança estourou na madrugada perto da Praça Ban Toll, na área de Nagrota, no distrito de Jammu. O encontro durou três horas, nas quais quatro terroristas foram mortos. As apreensões indicaram que eles estavam planejando um grande ataque, disse Mukesh Singh, inspetor-geral da Polícia, Zona Jammu. O alvo também pode ser a eleição do DDC em Jammu e Caxemira; a polícia não descartou essa possibilidade. As eleições serão realizadas em oito fases entre 28 de novembro e 19 de dezembro. A apuração dos votos será realizada no dia 22 de dezembro.
“É possível que eles estivessem planejando um grande ataque. Esse tipo de situação não tem precedentes. É possível que eles estivessem visando a eleição do DDC. No entanto, estamos investigando”, disse Singh.
Seu modus operandi era antigo, o que indicava que provavelmente pertenciam ao grupo terrorista Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) designado pelas Nações Unidas.
