Brazilian Vice Admiral José Vicente de Alvarenga Filho, Ambassador Sadia Faizunnesa and Commodore Abu Sayed Ma Afzaful Haque, the Defense Attaché of Bangladesh
On November 21st, the Defense Wing of the Embassy of Bangladesh organized a special event to celebrate the 2024 Armed Forces Day, held at the Embassy of Bangladesh in Brasília.
The ceremony began at 11:30 AM with the performance of the Brazilian National Anthem, followed by the National Anthem of Bangladesh. The event brought together representatives from Brazil’s Ministry of Defense, the Brazilian Armed Forces — Navy, Army, and Air Force —, the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Itamaraty), senior military officials, and defense attachés from diplomatic missions accredited in Brazil.
The first speech was delivered by Commodore Abu Sayed Ma Afzaful Haque, the Defense Attaché of Bangladesh, who paid tribute to the great leaders of Bangladesh who played crucial roles during the Liberation War, as well as to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the country’s independence. He highlighted the remarkable transformation that has taken place in Bangladesh over the past few months, marking the transition from Sheikh Hasina’s government to that of Muhammad Yunus — a significant milestone in Bengali history. According to the Commodore, this change has brought hope and the promise of a more prosperous and democratic future, revitalizing a society previously engulfed in uncertainty.
The Commodore also emphasized Bangladesh’s unique role as an example of communal harmony, with its Armed Forces playing a vital role in supporting the civil administration, as designated by the government. He took the opportunity to express his gratitude to Brazil, particularly to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Defense, the Brazilian Armed Forces, and other institutions, for their continuous support and cooperation in the defense sector.
The Ambassador of Bangladesh to Brazil, Sadia Faizunnesa, highlighted in her speech the notable progress achieved in just 100 days by the new interim government led by Professor Muhammad Yunus. She underscored the stabilization of the country and the efforts to lay the foundation for significant reforms. The Ambassador also noted that the Embassy of Bangladesh in Brasília is the only Bengali diplomatic representation in South America and that the establishment of the Defense Wing just five years ago has strengthened defense cooperation with Brazil and other countries in the region.
After the speeches, a commemorative cake was cut to warm applause. Guests were then invited to a buffet featuring a variety of Bengali delicacies, where they had the opportunity to savor the rich flavors of the country’s cuisine. During the celebration, Brazilian Vice Admiral José Vicente de Alvarenga Filho was honored with an appreciation award to celebrate the strong partnership between Brazil and Bangladesh in the field of defense.
At the end of the event, guests received a special gift: a cap from the Bangladesh Navy, proudly manufactured in the country. THE GUIDE congratulates the Embassy for this wonderful event and celebrates the political stability recently achieved by Bangladesh.
