On August 5th, the Embassy of Suriname hosted a literary lecture with Surinamese writer Cynthia McLeod, author of the famous work “The Cost of Sugar” (Quão caro foi o açúcar?), the first Surinamese book to be translated into Portuguese.
The event took place at the Surinamese Embassy and guests were welcomed by the Ambassador of Suriname to Brazil, Ms. Angeladebie Roshni Annie Ramkisoen. Foreign ambassadors, diplomats, journalists, academics, and prominent figures from Brasilia’s society were at the event.

After the guests arrived, the talk began, and everyone was captivated by writer Cynthia McLeod, who gave a masterclass on the history of Suriname and the country’s period as a Dutch colony. This historical moment is covered in her book, which is now available in Portuguese in Brazilian bookstores.
After the engaging talk, guests asked the writer questions, which she graciously answered. At the end of the enthusiastic book discussion, everyone enjoyed a celebratory cocktail reception and had a chance to purchase the interesting book.
