The Embassy of Guatemala in Brasília celebrated 154 years of its Army on Friday, June 27th, hosting a reception at the Military Club in Brasília. On the occasion, Guatemala’s Defense Attaché, Colonel Antón Mejia and that country’s ambassador to Brazil, Mr. Artur Romeo Duarte Ortiz, received greetings from dozens of guests from various diplomatic missions, as well as Brazilian government officials.

The guests – including many Defense Attachés – were welcomed in the club’s social hall, and after everyone arrived, the event began with the playing of the national anthems of Brazil and Guatemala.

Next, Defense Attaché, Colonel Antón Mejia, delivered a speech emphasizing the importance and role of the armed forces in his country. He received applause from everyone, and a video about the actions of the Guatemalan armed forces was shown on a large screen at the venue.
The Ambassador of Guatemala, Mr. Artur Romeo Duarte Ortiz, then delivered a speech, discussing the history and presence of the armed forces in various areas involving security. The ambassador proposed a toast in honor of the Guatemalan Army, and everyone toasted festively.
Guests were then invited to enjoy a lunch featuring Guatemalan cuisine. Everyone savored the flavors of the food from this beautiful country, and a celebratory cake was served between desserts.

In an atmosphere of joy and camaraderie, the Ambassador of Guatemala, Mr. Artur Romeo Duarte Ortiz, and the Defense Attaché, Colonel Antón Mejia, along with other diplomats and attachés from the Guatemalan Embassy, were congratulated by everyone on the success of the celebration.
