Palestinian Minister Visits Brazil

Dr. Varsin Aghabekian Shahin, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the State of Palestine

 

The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the State of Palestine, Ms. Dr. Varsin Aghabekian Shahin, visited Brazil in March 2025 and participated in a round of political consultations and a series of important meetings within the scope of strengthening bilateral relations with Brazil.

On March 19, journalists from several media outlets were received at the Palestinian Embassy by Ambassador Ibrahim Alzeben for a press conference with Minister Varsin Aghabekian Shahin. Foreign ambassadors also attended the event.

 

After everyone arrived, the press conference began and the Minister made a statement, reporting on the great suffering of the Palestinian people, victims of recent heavy attacks that killed hundreds of people, including women and children. She stressed that the Palestinian territories have suffered from the actions of “a truly brutal and unprecedented colonialist war machine, which is committed to seeking our expulsion and annihilation, in a declared manner and without any accountability”.

The minister said she was pleased with the visit to Brazil, which consolidated her position as a strong defender of International Law, especially in causes related to human rights, respect for the sovereignty of countries and the right of peoples to self-determination. She also said that with regard to supporting the just Palestinian cause, Brazil has a declared and clear position in defense of Palestinian rights, within the context of International Law, because it believes that rights are not divisible and that justice cannot be selective.

Minister Varsin A. Shahin stressed that what Palestine needs today is a pragmatic approach and the adoption of relevant and precise measures to end the occupation definitively. For her, impunity and the lack of accountability for the atrocities suffered by her people have allowed the expansion of violence and oppression. According to her, continued joint work with Brazil and other countries around the world will pave the way for peace and stability, in cooperation with Arab countries, which are considered brothers and have supported Palestine against the threat of expulsion and colonization.

The journalists received informational material with the points sought by Palestine:

1 – Bring humanitarian aid to Gaza and ensure a lasting ceasefire in all Palestinian lands.

2 – Support the Egyptian-Palestinian plan for reconstruction, endorsed unanimously by all member countries of the League of Arab States and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.

3 – A total boycott of all products from Israeli colonies and the punishment of settlers for the war crimes they commit, in accordance with Security Council resolution No. 2334.

4 – Worldwide recognition of the State of Palestine and the achievement of its full membership in the United Nations.
5 – Ensure the success of the International Peace Conference, scheduled to be held in June, and the achievement of the objectives of the Global Alliance for the fulfillment of the two-state solution, led by Saudi Arabia.

Minister Varsin Aghabekian Shahin concluded her speech with the following statement:

“The struggle of the Palestinian people is not just a national cause, but an ethical cause. It is a test of the global commitment to justice, human rights and the dignity of all peoples on earth. And as long as Brazil, with its long history of fighting injustice, is on the side of the law, we will be confident that we can always count on it and its friendly people to continue our approach to law.”

The members of the press, ambassadors and guests present applauded the minister and the floor was opened for questions and answers. The minister explained the situation of oppression and violence suffered by Palestine and the efforts of its people to achieve peace, respect and recognition of their right to exist.

After answering questions from journalists, the Palestinian Ambassador, Mr. Ibrahim Alzeben, invited everyone to go to the embassy lawns and participate in the planting of a tree, symbolizing the hope for better days with peace for all peoples.

Ministra palestina visita o Brasil

A Ministra de Estado das Relações Exteriores e Expatriados do Estado da Palestina, Sra. Dra. Varsin Aghabekian Shahin, visitou o Brasil no mês de março de 2025 e participou de uma rodada de consultas políticas e de uma série de encontros importantes no âmbito do fortalecimento das relações bilaterais com o Brasil.

No dia 19 de março, jornalistas de vários veículos de comunicação foram recebidos na Embaixada da Palestina pelo embaixador Ibrahim Alzeben para uma conferência de imprensa com a Ministra Varsin Aghabekian Shahin. Embaixadores estrangeiros também compareceram ao evento.

Após a chegada de todos, a coletiva de imprensa teve início e a Ministra fez um pronunciamento, informando sobre o grande sofrimento do povo palestino, vítima de fortes ataques recentes que mataram centenas de pessoas, incluindo mulheres e crianças. Ela ressaltou que os territórios palestino têm sofrido com o a ação de “uma verdadeira e brutal máquina de guerra colonialista sem precedentes, que está empenhada na busca pela nossa expulsão e aniquilamento, de forma declarada e sem qualquer responsabilização”.

Ela informou estar satisfeita com a visita ao Brasil, que consolidou sua posição como forte defensor do Direito Internacional, especialmente nas causas relacionadas aos direitos humanos, ao respeito à soberania dos países e ao direito dos povos à autodeterminação. Disse ainda que no que concerne ao apoio a justa causa palestina, o Brasil tem uma posição declarada e clara em defesa dos direitos palestinos, no contexto do Direito Internacional, porque acredita que os direitos não são divisíveis e que a justiça não pode ser seletiva.

A ministra ressaltou que o que a Palestina precisa hoje é de uma abordagem pragmática e a adoção de medidas relevantes e precisas para acabar com a ocupação de forma definitiva. Para ela, a impunidade e a inexistência de responsabilização pelas atrocidades sofridas por seu povo têm permitido a ampliação da violência e opressão. Segundo a mInistra Shahin, a continuidade do trabalho conjunto com o Brasil e demais países do mundo possibilitarão o caminho para a paz e a estabilidade, em cooperação com os países árabes, considerados irmãos e que tem apoiado a Palestina contra a ameaça de expulsão e colonização.

Os jornalistas receberam material informativo com os pontos almejados pela Palestina:

1 – Fazer Chegar as ajudas humanitária à Gaza e garantir um cessar-fogo duradouro em todas as terras da Palestina.

2 – Apoiar o plano egípcio-palestino para a reconstrução, endossada por todos os países membros da Liga dos Estados Árabes e pela Organização para a Cooperação Islâmica, por unanimidade.

3 – O boicote total à todos os produtos das colônia israelenses e a punição dos colonos pelos crimes de guerra que cometem, em conformidade com a resolução do Conselho de Segurança No. 2334.

4 – O reconhecimento mundial do Estado da Palestina e a concretização de sua adesão plena como membro das Nações Unidas.

5 – Garantir o sucesso da Conferência Internacional da Paz, prevista para ser realizada durante o mês de junho próximo e a concretização dos objetivos da Aliança Global pelo cumprimento da solução de dois estados, liderado pela Arábia Saudita.

A ministra Varsin Aghabekian Shahin concluiu seu discurso com a seguinte declaração:

“ A luta do povo palestino não e tão somente uma causa nacional, mas sim uma causa ética. É um teste ao compromisso mundial com a justiça, com os direitos humanos e com a dignidade de todos os povos da terra. E enquanto o Brasil, com sua longa história de combate à injustiça, estiver do lado do direito, estaremos confiantes de que poderemos contar sempre com ele com o seu povo amigo para darmos continuidade à nossa abordagem pelo direito.”

Os membros da imprensa, embaixadores e convidados presentes aplaudiram a ministra e abriu-se espaço para perguntas e respostas. A ministra esclareceu sobre a situação de opressão e violência sofrida pela Palestina e o esforço de seu povo pela conquista da paz, do respeito e do reconhecimento do direito a sua existência.

Após o atendimento às perguntas dos jornalistas, o embaixador da Palestina, Sr. Ibrahim Alzeben, convidou a todos para se dirigirem aos gramados da embaixada e participarem do plantio de uma árvore, simbolizando a esperança de dias melhores com paz para todos os povos.
