The Kazakhstan Embassy celebrated Victory Day (May 9) by welcoming Brazilian journalists to a roundtable discussion entitled “Serving the Fatherland, Defending the Fatherland,” dedicated to the exploits, heroism, and memory of Kazakh heroes. The Kazakh people are proud of their heroes of World War II. 530 compatriots were awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union, 110 received the Order of Glory, and four Kazakhs became twice Heroes of the Soviet Union.
The event took place on May 24 and was attended by representatives of newspapers and media outlets. The Kazakh ambassador to Brazil, Mr. Bolat Nussupov, explained to the guests that in his country the memory of the victims of the war is honored, as it affected every family in the country. The Kazakh people feel the loss, but at the same time they are proud of their ancestors. A feeling that is passed down from generation to generation.
There were no military operations in Kazakhstan during the Second World War, but the Kazakh people actively participated in the war and provided the Soviet army with what was necessary to defeat the enemy. Many defense factories and schools were moved to Kazakhstan. Every second cartridge and rocket was produced in Kazakhstan, and the Kazakh people also supplied food to the front. In total, one million two hundred thousand Kazakhs were mobilized, that is, 20% of the pre-war population. 602 thousand people died on the front lines in order to achieve victory.
Kazakh diplomats spoke to journalists and presented the names of their heroes and their stories. Names such as Sagadat Nurmagambetov, an important commander, and Rakhimzhan Koshkarbayev, known as the People’s Hero of Kazakhstan, were presented to the Brazilian press, along with other important figures in Kazakhstan’s victorious history.
Brazilian journalists asked questions and praised Kazakhstan’s heroic participation in the victory over Nazism. It was enriching to learn about this important part of Kazakhstan’s history, a country that is increasingly strengthening its relations with Brazil in several areas.
THE GUIDE congratulates the Embassy of Kazakhstan on Victory Day and for the initiative to present important moments in its history to Brazilians!
