The Embassy of Chile in Brasília held a ceremony on Tuesday, April 29, to commemorate Carabineros Day, honoring Chile’s national police force responsible for public security and institutional order. The event was attended by defense attachés from various embassies, Brazilian authorities and journalists. Colonel Miguel Antônio Herrera Jorquera, Chile’s Carabineros Attaché in Brazil, along with his family, welcomed the guests at the embassy’s social hall.
Attendees gathered in the main hall awaiting the commencement of the afternoon’s first program, a solemn tribute to fallen Carabineros.
The program opened with a minute of silence in memory of departed officers, followed by the national anthems of Brazil and Chile. Guests then watched an institutional video highlighting the Carabineros’ role in maintaining Chile’s stability and security. The presentation included a message from Chaplain Jenaro Acevedo Catalán of the Araucanía Zone, who emphasized religious values as part of the force’s identity.
Chilean Ambassador to Brazil, Mr. Sebastián Depolo, delivered a speech praising the Carabineros’ importance to Chilean society and government. “Your dedication and professionalism are essential to our country’s peace and order”, he stated.
Colonel Miguel Herrera, Chile’s Carabineros Attaché in Brazil, also spoke, underscoring the institution’s 99-year history and honoring colleagues who died in the line of duty during 2024.
The ceremony concluded with the Carabineros anthem and an official photo with attending dignitaries. Guests then gathered for a fellowship lunch featuring a celebratory cake, closing the event in a spirit of camaraderie and recognition for this vital Chilean institution.
