The Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil presents “Vestido de Noiva”, a play by the Oficcina Multimédia Group, based on the work of the same name by Nelson Rodrigues. The play will run from November 16th to December 9th.
“Vestido de Noiva” is an emblematic play by Nelson Rodrigues, in which the author skillfully interweaves reality, memory and hallucination to tell the moving story of Alaíde. After being hit by a car at high speed, Alaíde is hospitalized in a state of shock. During surgery, her mind, oscillating between life and death, embarks on a journey to reconstruct her own narrative. Gradually, her unconscious dreams and innermost desires emerge, revealing an intriguing plot.
In the process of reconstruction, Alaíde relies on the mysterious Madame Clessi, and together they uncover the existence of a crime, turning the investigation into one of the crucial elements of the plot. Even though it was written in 1943, “Vestido de Noiva” remains surprisingly timely, transcending the appearance of a mere family drama to reveal a tragedy of universal significance.
The work, divided into three acts, stands out for Nelson Rodrigues’ unique approach, which delves into the inner workings of the character’s mind, exploring her spirit, psyche and soul. This iconic play promises to engage audiences with its complex narrative and deeply captivating characters.
