On June 12, the Rwandan embassy in Brazil held the event “Kwibuka 30: Remember – Unite – Renew” in the Câmara Legislativa of the Federal District, which solemnly recalls the 30th anniversary of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda. The event began with a warm welcome from important political figures and members of different embassies on mission in Brazil. Members of the embassies of Cameroon, Serbia, Angola, Gabon, Guinea-Bissau and many others were present, who were received by Ambassador of Rwnda, H.E.Mr. Lawrence Manzi, First Secretary Theogene Ntakirutimana and Ambassador”s wife, Mrs. Annet Baingana, in addition to the entire embassy team.

After welcoming guests, a video briefly explaining about the Rwandan Genocide was shown to the public. As the video ended, the national anthems of Rwanda and Brazil were played respectively. At the end of the anthems, a group of volunteers and friends from Rwanda, including THE GUIDE’s representative, Mr. Gabriel Maciel Gomes, were invited to deliver phrases in honor of the victims of the conflict. All volunteers lit candles, followed by members of the public.

Rwanda’s ambassador, Mr. Lawrence Manzi, thanked everyone for attending the event, and highlighted the importance of understanding Rwanda in the past in order to understand the country in the future. The Ambassador of Cameroon and Dean of the African Heads of Mission Group in Brasília, Mr. Martin Mbeng, gave a speech about the importance of remembering and supporting this friendly African nation, never remaining silent in the face of injustice.

Ambassador of Cameroon and Dean of the African Heads of Mission Group in Brasília, Mr. Martin Mbeng, gave a speech about the importance of remembering and supporting Rwanda.

A citizen of Rwanda, Mr. Christian Niyoyita was also invited to speak about the genocide. The Rwandan was a genocide survivor and spoke in detail about the atrocities he saw and experienced during his childhood. After a solemn moment, participants were invited outside, where they could learn more in the the genocide awareness exhibition.

No dia 12 de Junho, a embaixada de Ruanda no Brasil realizou na Câmara Legislativa do Distrito Federal o evento “Kwibuka 30: Remember – Unite – Renew” que relembra solenemente os 30 anos do genocídio de 1994 contra os Tutsi em Ruanda.

O evento começou com uma recepção calorosa de figuras políticas importantes e membros de diferentes embaixadas em missão no Brasil. Estavam presentes membros das embaixadas de Camarões, Sérvia, Angola, Gabão, Guiné-Bissau e muitas outras, que foram recebidos pelo embaixador Lawrence Manzi, o primeiro secretário Theogene Ntakirutimana  e a embaixatriz Annet Baingana, além de toda a equipe de embaixada.

Após a recepção dos convidados, um vídeo explicando resumidamente o que foi o Genocídio de Ruanda foi passado. Com o término do vídeo, os hinos nacionais de Ruanda e Brasil foram tocados respectivamente. Na finalização dos hinos, um grupo de voluntários e amigos de Ruanda, incluindo o representante do THE GUIDE Sr. Gabriel Maciel Gomes, foram convidados para proferir frases em homenagem às vítimas do conflito. Todos os voluntários acenderam velas, seguidos pelos membros do público.

O embaixador de Ruanda, Sr. Lawrence Manzi, proferiu um discurso agradecendo a todos pela presença no evento e citou a importância de entender a Ruanda do passado para assim entender o país no futuro. O Embaixador de Camarões e Presidente do Grupo de Chefes de Missões Africanas no Brasil, Sr. Martin Mbeng, também discursou e ressaltou a importância de lembrar e apoiar essa nação africana amiga, nunca ficando em silêncio perante injustiças.

O cidadão de Ruanda, Sr. Christian Niyoyita também foi convidado a falar sobre o genocídio. O ruandês foi um sobrevivente do genocídio e contou com detalhes as atrocidades que viu e viveu durante sua infância.

Após um momento solene, os participantes foram convidados para o salão exterior, onde puderam aprender mais da história de Ruanda na exposição de conscientização do genocídio.
