On Monday, September 27th, Brasilia’s national library reopened its doors after a period of being closed down due to the covid-19 pandemic.
The architectural project for the National Library was originally conceived in the original plan for Brasília, signed by Lúcio Costa in the late 1950s, when the urban planner designed the federal capital with Oscar Niemeyer and other architects.
Despite it being designed during the original plans for the city, the library was only built way later, having its opening in the year 2008. Nowadays, the library holds over 25 thousand books, you can check the library’s catalog online thought its website.
One of the main public libraries in the Distrito Federal and the country, the “Biblioteca Nacional” (National Library), reopens on Monday, September 27th, with the inauguration of its audio library, which has a collection of more than 120 audiobooks by various authors, including: Paulo freire, Manuel de Barros, Aghatha Christie and Stephen King. The space still awaits the arrival of more audiobooks in the coming months.
The reopening will have reduced capacity by up to 60% and safety protocols that provide for a distance of two meters, as well as the mandatory use of masks, hand sanitizer and temperature measurement at the entrance will be mandatory.
It can prove itself to be a great opportunity to get more acquainted with the Portuguese language and to know some of the country’s greatest authors.
