Although the official Carnival days in Brazil are from February 13th to 18th, the Carnival festivities have already begun in the streets of hundreds of Brazilian cities, and Brasília will be no different. Many “blocos” (street carnival groups) will be performing this weekend, and THE GUIDE provides the schedule of activities and other cultural attractions below. The source of the information is a text published on the Deboa Brasília website, with adaptations.

The tropical climate continues strong in Brasília with Verão R2 (Summer R2), which this Saturday (Feb 07) receives all the energy of singer Léo Santana, bringing the spirit of Bahia’s state Carnival to the stage. The night also features shows by Matheus & Kauan and Os Garotin.

On Sunday (08), a social media phenomenon will perform: the group Dos Rosa, which mixes music, humor, challenges and interaction with the public, attracting thousands of fans across Brazil.

Another highlight is the Me Leva Festival, which brings together renowned names such as singer Belo, Pixote, Péricles and Jeito Moleque at the Arena BRB Mané Garrincha. There will be more than eight hours of pure fun.

At the Festival Em Casa, in Parque da Cidade (City Park), Friday ( Feb 06) is packed with SextaGode, mixing the rhythms pagode, piseiro and funk.

On Saturday (07), it’s Bloquinho com Xeque Mate’s turn, inspired by the bloco (Carnival street band) Pedra do Sal, in Rio de Janeiro — a perfect option for those who want to kick off the carnival. The line-up includes Trisal Batidão, Jess Ullun, Luisa Porfírio and Fábio Ferreira.

Good music, encounters and a sophisticated atmosphere take over Manhattan Shopping with the Manhattan Jazz project. From 5 pm on Saturday, Juninho di Sousa Trio takes the stage. Admission is free. Read more here.

The carnival street parties (blocos) are already starting to heat up the city.

Among the options is the Bloco Faz Amor Urgente, an initiative of the Samba Urgente cultural movement, which takes over the center of the capital in the pre-carnival period with free programming open to the public. The festivities take place from 2 pm to 10 pm, in the Setor Bancário Sul – SBS (South Banking Sector), with free entry upon prior collection of the courtesy ticket.

At Brasília Shopping (Asa Norte), the festivities have a name, date and place: the traditional Abre-Alas (Carnival starting moment) welcomes the Bloco Eduardo e Mônica and the Banda de Percussão Patubatê, in addition to the Folia Inclusiva with the PIPA team. The party takes place on Sunday (08), from 12 pm to 6 pm, in the shopping mall’s outdoor area, with free entry.

The Mané Mercado units, in Plano Piloto and Águas Claras, have also prepared a special free program that mixes live music, children’s activities, themed workshops and interactive attractions, guaranteeing fun for all ages between February 7 and 22.

Venâncio Shopping (Asa Sul) promotes the Bloquinho Divertido on Saturday (07), from 1 pm to 5:30 pm, with free admission. The program brings together musical attractions, games, carnival parade and children’s activities, in a covered and safe environment for audiences of all ages.

Taguatinga Shopping will host, from Friday to Sunday, the 8th edition of the Nipo Festival, one of the main events dedicated to Asian culture in Brasília. Traditional in the capital’s calendar, the festival promises to bring together gastronomy, cultural presentations, contests and immersive experiences that celebrate the diversity of oriental traditions.

On stage, the show “Rita Lee – A Musical Autobiography” opens an extra session at the Ulysses Convention Center (Centro de Convenções Ulysses Guimarães), at 4:30 pm on Sunday. The audience success confirms the strength of the production starring Mel Lisboa, which celebrates the trajectory of one of the most iconic artists in Brazilian music.

The G7 Comedy Company also arrives at the Caesb Águas Claras Theater with the show “Intimacy is a B*tch” (A Intimidade é uma M*rda!), a comedy made especially for those who already know each other “from other carnivals” (Brazilian expression for “From long ago”).

Pay attention to safety precautions

If you plan on having fun at the Carnival events, be careful with your cell phone and the use of your bank cards. High rates of cell phone theft are reported during Carnival, in addition to various scams involving bank cards, including card swapping and debit amounts entered into machines that are much higher than the purchase amounts.

By taking the necessary precautions, enjoy the weekend!!!
