The United Kingdom Embassy football team was the grand champion of the 1st THE GUIDE – “Mundial Residence” Amateur Football Tournament, held on Saturday, July 27 2024. The team demonstrated their technique and physical endurance during the nearly six-hour tournament, in which they faced the challenge of playing up to 3 consecutive matches under the very hot sun and dry weather.

They are the champions!

Congratulations!!!

The runner-up was the “Adidâncias Militares e Policiais (Military and Police Attachés)” team, which included players from the embassies of Argentina, Chile, Colombia, France, Israel, Peru and Uruguay. A team with a high level of technique and endurance, which almost took the decision to penalties shootout. The exciting final game ended 2-1 for the United Kingdom. After the final whistle, the two teams exchanged hugs and congratulations, demonstrating their sportsmanship and certain that they had played a great match with a high level of technique.

The “Defense and Police Attachés” team did also a great tournament!

The player from the United Kingdom, Naseem Al-Qaq, known as Nemo, was the tournament’s top scorer and won the “Golden Boot” trophy. Another highlight was the FAIR PLAY trophy going to the “Nordics” team, made up of members of the embassies of Denmark, Finland, Sweden and Norway, as well as a guest player from the Congolese embassy.

The teams arrived at 8:30 a.m. at ARENA Futebol Clube, in Setor de Clubes Sul. The tournament organizers welcomed the teams and the team leaders received instructions from the referees on how the games would be played, reminding everyone that the main objective of the tournament was to promote camaraderie. Everyone accepted the rules and the matches began.

Many people contributed with suggestions to make the next tournament even better and THE GUIDE and Mundial Residence thank all for the suggestions!

We thank everyone who donated food to needy institutions.

The Nordic, CICV and United States teams brought women to their teams, setting a great example of gender equality. The tournament organizers praised this participation and plan to make it a prerequisite for women to participate in the teams of the next tournaments.

All the games had exciting moments and there were few draws, with the games being decided on penalties. Each game had two ten-minute halves and unlimited substitutions, which allowed each player to rest whenever they wanted. A team would be eliminated if they suffered two defeats, and so the final match was gradually being decided.

The fact that they had suffered a defeat in the first matches meant that the team from the embassy of United Kingdom had to win all the following matches to advance in the championship. It was as if each match was a final, and with the spirit of unity and strength, the team won game after game in a table that also proved to be adversarial: to be champion, the team from the British embassy would have to win three times in a row, as the hours progressed and the afternoon began to demand even more from the team, making its players even start to feel cramps. It was a difficult moment, but the team’s determination was greater.

The opposing team, Military and Police Attachés, on the other hand, played an impeccable campaign until the final match. They won all the matches and could calmly wait for two games to find out who their opponent would be in the final match. On the other hand, this cooled the team down a bit and that may have been one of the reasons why the British embassy team scored two goals. The Military and Police Attachés team started to react and scored a beautiful goal against the English team, but it was too late as the game came to an end. It was a duel between the two best teams in the tournament, no doubt about it.

After the game ended, the players and their fans headed to the awards ceremony area. The CEO of THE GUIDE Business Consultancy, Mr. Pedro Paulo Moreira, opened the awards ceremony and thanked the event’s sponsoring companies, especially Mundial Residence International and National Removal and Relocation Company, which organized the tournament together with THE GUIDE. He also thanked the participating teams for having put on a fun and lively tournament with great games and lots of socializing, as well as for bringing fans who put on a show with happy families cheering for their players.

Mr. Pedro Paulo Moreira congratulated the “Nordics” team for winning the “Fair Play” trophy. The team received applause from everyone. Nemo is the son of the British ambassador, H.E.Ms. Stephanie Al-Qaq, who attended the tournament to watch the great victory of her embassy team.

Embaixada do Reino Unido vence o 1º Torneio de Futebol Amador THE GUIDE – Mundial Residence!

AUDI Diplomatic Sales;
Julio Delamora Advocacia;
Rita Trindade Spa Odontológico;
Wanessa Sigiane Plastic Surgeon;
Central Park Graphic Services and
Eduardo Garcia Assessoria Imobiliária

Participaram do torneio os seguintes times:

Campeão: Reino Unido.  Troféu Artilheiro para o atacante Nemo
Vice-Campeão: Adidos Militares e Policiais
Troféu Fair Play: “Nórdicos”
All Black
Barrio +K
Canadá
CICV
Estados Unidos da América
GIZ Brasil
Mundial Residence

O THE GUIDE e a Mundial Residence agradecem pelas sugestões!
