The 13th of July is known in Brazil as World Day of Rock. The day celebrates the musical genre and was chosen in honor of Live Aid mega event — a concert that happened simultaneously in London, England and United States — that day in 1985 to call attention of the world to the hunger in Ethiopia. The celebration is a reference to a desire expressed by Phil Collins, participant of the event, which one would it be considered “global day of rock”.

Participated in the event artists such as The Who, Led Zeppelin, Dire Straits, Madonna, Queen, David Bowie, BB King, Mick Jagger, Sting, Scorpions, U2, Paul McCartney, Phil Collins, Eric Clapton and Black Sabbath.

But back to Brasília: Festival Dia Mundial do Rock (Festival World Day of Rock) will be hosted at Toinha Bar and various famous rockstars will be honored by the bands playing in the festival. The project Dream Theater Tribute, from São Paulo, will play songs from the famous group. They will be followed by Drag Queen, Gotham and Breakdown, who will cover songs from Queen, AC/DC and Guns ‘n’ Roses, respectively.

If you are a fan of the brazilian rock band Legião Urbana you may also want to check it out the event Tributo ao Rock (Tribute to Rock) happening at Bar Brahma. The band MenTechs will play songs from the iconic band from Brasília and also from some other national bands.
