Starting May 8th, the “XVIII Semana da Europa” (XVIII Europe Week) will be taking place, with several activities that will be taking place throughout the month of May. Europe Week aims to promote European culture in Brazil, uniting different cultural manifestations to celebrate Europe Day, celebrated on May 9.  The celebration will present the following activities: the “Corrida União Europeia” race (On May 8th), an exhibition of European movies (From May 13th to the 22nd), the event “Café com Europa” (On May 20th), the event “Speak Dating” in celebration of the European Day of Languages (On September 24th), as well as several online tours of various historical and cultural location around Europe.  More information about the events above will be shared as the event dates approach. 

 

Corrida União Europeia (European Union Race): 

After two years suspended due to the Covid-19 pandemic, one of the main sports attractions on the Distrito Federal calendar returns to the “Eixão Sul” avenue on May 8th (Sunday): the “Corrida União Europeia” (European Union Race). The event is organized by EUNIC Brasília (Association of Cultural Institutes, Embassies and Consulates of European Union member countries) and by the European Union Delegation in Brazil. 

The return of the race, which reaches its 16th edition in 2022, is excellent news for street runners and sports professionals alike. Participants will have 5km, 10km and 15km modalities. The 5km course is open to runners aged 16 and over. The others, to anyone over 18 years of age and in adequate physical conditions for the practice of sports. The starting line will be set up near the Banco Central and the start is scheduled for 7 a.m, with an expected participation of 1,800 athletes.

Mostra de Cinema Europeu (European Movie Showcase):

From Friday, May 13th, until May 22nd, the “Semana da Europa” will begin its European movie showcase, which will bring several European films from the past 4 years in a free and online format in the official website.

The films are documentaries, dramas and comedies that, in addition to presenting different realities and cultures, also induce reflection on topics such as climate change, collective health, women’s rights, gender equity, children’s rights, equality and tolerance in racial relations, social justice and cultural shock on migration issues, among others.

Virtual Tours:  

Several historical and cultural European locations are permanently available to be visited on the “Semana da Europa” website, completely online and free of charge, allowing people all around the country to take a tour of various cultural spaces that are a reference in several European destinations.  

You can visit locations such as the Städel Museum, in Germany, considered one of the most important museums in the world and which brings together 700 years of European art, the Gaasbeek Castle, in Belgium, which has a beautiful medieval collection that is very well preserved, and many others.

A partir do dia 8 de maio decorre a “XVIII Semana da Europa”, com várias atividades que decorrerão ao longo do mês de maio. A Semana da Europa tem como objetivo promover a cultura europeia no Brasil, unindo diferentes manifestações culturais para celebrar o Dia da Europa, celebrado em 9 de maio.

Corrida União Europeia: 

Após dois anos suspenso devido à pandemia de Covid-19, uma das principais atrações desportivas do calendário do Distrito Federal regressa à avenida Eixão Sul no dia 8 de maio (domingo): a Corrida União Europeia. O evento é organizado pela EUNIC Brasília (Associação de Institutos Culturais, Embaixadas e Consulados dos países membros da União Europeia) e pela Delegação da União Europeia no Brasil. 

A volta da prova, que chega à sua 16ª edição em 2022, é uma excelente notícia para corredores de rua e profissionais do esporte. Os participantes terão modalidades de 5km, 10km e 15km. O percurso de 5 km está aberto a corredores com idade igual ou superior a 16 anos. Os demais, a maiores de 18 anos e em condições físicas adequadas para a prática de esportes. A largada será montada próximo ao Banco Central e a largada está marcada para as 7h, com a participação prevista de 1.800 atletas.
