Until February 2nd, the Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil (Banco do Brasil Cultural Center) will present the play “Um Jardim para Tchekhov” (A Garden for Chekhov). The play is a dramatic comedy about a renowned theater actress who moves in with her daughter, a doctor, and her son-in-law, a police chief, in a condominium in Botafogo. Unemployed for 3 years, Alma Duran dreams of putting on “O Jardim das Cerejeiras” (The Cherry Garden). When she has trouble putting on the show, she meets a stranger in the building’s playground who claims to be Anton Chekhov and who helps her. Starring Maria Padilha in an original text by Pedro Brício and directed by Georgette Fadel, the play mixes Brazil and Russia in a plot that discusses, with plenty of humor, the times of intolerance experienced in the country. The cast also includes Leonardo Medeiros, Erom Cordeiro, Olivia Torres, and Iohanna Carvalho. This project is supported by the Federal Law for Cultural Incentives (Rouanet Law).
Pedro Brício is a writer, director and actor, and one of the most productive and award-winning Brazilian playwrights of the last 20 years. He wrote and directed the plays “King Kong Fran” (in partnership with Rafa Azevedo), “O Condomínio”, “Me salve, musical!”, “Trabalhos de amores quase perdidos”, “Cine-Teatro Limite”, “A Incrível Confeitaria do Sr. Pellica”. He has received some of the country’s top awards for his work, such as Shell, Questão de Crítica, Contigo and APCA (São Paulo Association of Art Critics). His texts have been translated into English, Spanish and German. He has participated in the Frankfurt International Book Fair, the Contemporary Drama Week in Guadalajara and the exhibition Una mirada al mundo at the Centro Dramático Nacional in Madrid. He wrote and directed the musicals “Icaro and the Black Stars” and “Show em Simonal”. As a director, in addition to his own texts, he staged plays by Samuel Beckett, Edward Albee, Rafael Spregelburd, Patricia Melo and Hilda Hilst.
Georgette Fadel is a director and actress with a degree in acting. During the 1990s, she became involved in and took part in the flourishing of a strong group movement in the city of São Paulo. She helped found companies such as Cia do Latão, Núcleo Bartolomeu de depoimentos and Cia São Jorge de Variedades, where she directed and acted in several notable shows of the aesthetic movement at the turn of the century, such as “O nome do Sujeito”, “Bartolomeu que será que né deu”, “Biedermann e os incendiários”, “Bastianas”, “Barafonda”, “Quem não sabe quem é, o que é onde está, precisa se mudança”. As an actress, she was directed by Cristiane Paoli Quito, Tiche Viana, Francisco Medeiros, Cibele Forjaz, Frank Castorf, Felipe Hirsch and Daniela Thomas. As a teacher, she taught at schools such as ELT (Free School of Theater), EAD (Teaching, development and reception) Estúdio Nova Dança. Her career is deeply linked to the construction of the free performer who is aware of the movements of her time.

The CCBB Brasília: The Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil Brasília was inaugurated on October 12, 2000, and is based in the Tancredo Neves Building, an architectural work by Oscar Niemeyer, and aims to bring together, in one place, all forms of art and creativity possible. With a landscape design designed by Alda Rabello Cunha, CCBB Brasília has large living spaces, bistro, art galleries, cinema room, theater, central square and gardens, where exhibitions, musical shows, shows, film screenings and performances.

Participa da fundação de companhias como Cia do Latão, Núcleo Bartolomeu de depoimentos e Cia São Jorge de Variedades, onde dirigiu e atuou em diversos espetáculos marcantes do movimento estético da virada do século como “O nome do Sujeito”, “Bartolomeu que será que nele deu”, “Biedermann e os incendiários,” “Bastianas”, “Barafonda”, “Quem não sabe mais quem é, o que é onde está , precisa se mexer”. Como atriz foi dirigida por Cristiane Paoli Quito, Tiche Viana, Francisco Medeiros, Cibele Forjaz, Frank Castorf, Felipe Hirsch, Daniela Thomas. Como professora, lecionou em escolas como ELT (Escola Livre de Teatro), EAD (Ensino, desenvolvimento e acolhimento) Estúdio Nova Dança. Sua trajetória é profundamente ligada à construção da performer livre e consciente dos movimentos do seu tempo.
