Lotus Amanda Maria Lobo de Alvarenga is a Brazilian plastic artist, designer and painter. Lithography is a process of printing images from an array, executed on a type of limestone, called lithographic stone. The artist is presenting an exhibition of lithographies at Caixa Cultural, in Asa Sul, until October 21, Tuesdays to Sundays, from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm.
Mrs. Alvarenga was born in the Brazilian city of Belo Horizonte. She studied Fine Arts and lithography in Minas Gerais and also graduated in Fine Arts and Art Sciences at the University of Paris. Mrs. Alvarenga is responsible for the assembly and direction of the lithographic workshop “Casa de Gravura Largo do Ó”, and for the coordination of the Memory of Lithography project in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais. Since 1993 she has been dedicated to the work of atelier and projects on the history of industrial lithography of the State.
In years of research on lithographic language, the artist Lotus Lobo, as she is known, has been an important collection of lithographic stones, tinplate containers and zinc arrays. The present exhibition highlights the importance of this collection, since it is one of the few in Brazil.
In the exhibition, themes can be observed not only in aspects of design such as typology, use of colors, influences, eclecticism of styles and creation of a Brazilian graphic language, but also the artistic quality of the drawings.
